Auctiv is now certified Organic

Auctiv is now certified Organic

by Jason Yau May 15, 2017

Today Auctiv achieved organic certification for its line of skin and lip care products. Auctiv has always created products using natural and organic ingredients. Certification is simply a symbol of our commitment to organic purity. Certification assures to you that our products contain a minimum of 70% organic content, with all remaining ingredients meeting the strict criteria required under the NSF standards.

Becoming certified organic by NSF means that we can provide a guarantee that the products you use comply with strict standards and procedures imposed by NSF. From extensive product testing and material analyses to unannounced plant inspections. Every aspect of our product’s development has been thoroughly evaluated before we received the NSF certification. The full set of standards can be found on the NSF website here.

Most importantly, NSF certification is not a one-time event, but involves regular on-site inspections of our manufacturing facilities and regular re-testing of our products to ensure that they continue to meet the same high standards required to maintain certification over time. If for any reason we fail to meet one or more certification criteria, NSF will take enforcement actions to protect you, including product recall, public notification, or de-certification.

Oregon Tilth is the inspection agency that we hired to ensure that the strict standards set by NSF are adhered too. Today, after an arduous process we can proudly say that we are certified Organic by NSF and inspected by Oregon Tilth.

Because the process of being certified can be strict and expensive, there are many companies that have chosen not to be certified and can make false claims about being natural and organic. Make sure to check the labels to ensure that your sunscreen and/or what you put on your skin is in fact natural or organic and is certified by NSF.

Achieving organic certification is a major milestone for us at this stage of our growth. It is our hope that consumers find great comfort and reassurance in knowing their products are now certified. We have a few more products coming under the NSF certification that we are excited to share. Check out our latest line up of now NSF certified organic sunscreen and keep an eye out for our new products coming in Summer 2017.

Does size really matter?
Does size really matter?

We’re talking about sunscreen particle size of course. And yes, size does matter but maybe not in the way you might think. You may have previously heard the terms “non-nano” and “nanoparticle” when reading the label on your sunscreen but what is the difference? The common argument told is that nanoparticles will absorb thru your skin and into your bloodstream but non-nano particles do not and therefore are safer. However, this is more hearsay than true. Studies conducted by the FDA on humans showed only about .01% of additional zinc oxide enters the bloodstream when using a nano vs a non-nano sunscreen. That’s not much.

Is your sunscreen reef safe?

Coral reefs are being damaged by a chemical called oxybenzone which is found in most sunscreen and other personal care products that protect against UV radiation. Auctiv refuses to use chemicals that are harmful for your skin and our environment.

A Tale of Dolphins and Sun-Protected Thieves
A Tale of Dolphins and Sun-Protected Thieves

by Ricky Lesser May 14, 2017

The sweet smell of the lush jungle doused with fresh rain fall, the echo of the indigenous birds you can always hear but never see, and the warm golden mist that visually evaporates from the flash of rain off the hot pavement. These visuals seem as fresh as if I were witnessing them now, but I’m not—I’m sitting at Gate 12F looking out through the dirty window, watching my bags being violently loaded onto the bottom of the plane. With sand still coating my sockless feet and salt crystals on my arms, I remain slightly proud, quite tired, and excited about the past 72 hours. As I look out the window and try to process the past few days running around this small island, highlights spike here and there as I grin with reflection and gratitude. During this contemplation, the whirlwind of this morning’s happenings stand out with stark contrast—and not simply because they’re most recent, but because of the odd sequence of how things played out.
